The “Voices” building earned its name in the mid-2000’s when the local arts community reclaimed the vacant warehouse through the annual large scale exhibition Voices from the Warehouse District. When Dupaco Credit Union was seeking a new home for its growing operations center, Dubuque’s revitalized Historic Millwork District was a natural fit – investing in Dubuque’s urban center close to the financial institution’s original location in Dubuque’s North End. They named it the Dupaco Voices building to pay homage to the arts community who reimagined the space.
The building was constructed in 1924 as part of the Carr, Adams & Collier Company (CARADCO), the CARADCO Company manufactured all forms of wood products when Dubuque’s Millwork District was home to the largest producers of these goods in the country.
Through Gronen’s leadership, the building underwent a complete gut rehabilitation from 2019-2021. All windows, doors, and roofs were replaced. In order to install new elevators, the lower level was excavated along with dewatering. The crowning achievement of the space was the addition of an innovative rooftop amenity with panoramic views of downtown Dubuque.
Dupaco occupies the building’s top three floors, with the first and second floors featuring a mix of office, retail, entertainment, and community space.
